1919 J-Series Mandobass This is a very rare 1919 Gibson Mando Bass made for a time when Mandolin Orchestra were extremely popular. It is a brown face spruce top with mahogany back and sides. Never been refinished. The top finish is cracked and peeled a little. Normal wear on the back and sides. The neck is strong and seated like a new one. The bridge and tailpiece are original. The arm rest bar and the peg leg are missing. Also note the gears. One side has an incorrect gear and is tuned by turning the peg backwards. It holds tune very well. New strings. Purchased in 1997 from a mandolin collector. This bass sounds great. They are compared to looking like a big tick, but have the sound you are looking for in an upright acoustic mandolin bass. Frets show normal wear and may be original. $4800.00 plus insurance and shipping. You should arrange to pick this instrument up. It can be heard on Steve Bluegrass Guitar Solos That Every Parking Lot Picker Should Know Volume 2 and Steve's CDs To The Lady and Circles Email or call Steve steve@flatpik.com or 865-982-3808 Monday - Thursday 9-2PM
