The Kamp Orchestra

One of the most cherished events and memories at SK's Acoustic Kamp is the Kamp Orchestra. In years past we would have one orchestra for Banjo, one for Guitar and one for Mandolin. In 2006 we saw the need to combine all the instruments for one super Kamp orchestra for each week. Week one's instruments are Fiddle, Bass, Dobro TM, Fingerstyle Guitar, Flatpicking Guitar and Old Time Banjo. Week two's instruments are Bluegrass Banjo, Flatpicking Guitar and Mandolin. So we thought it best to combine all the instruments for one super orchestra.

2007's Kamp Orchestra

Steve has a new book Series out called "Band in a Book with CD" written for lead guitar, mandolin and fiddle, bass, rhythm guitar and bluegrass banjo. Each instrument has their own pull out section. This way if you are in a family band or have buddies that play, you can all work out of one book and have your own section. In speaking with maestro Beppe Gambetta, we thought it would be best to decide which songs would be played in the orchestra by picking them out of Steve's book. This way you can see the songs and start working on them now and be ready for the Kamp's Rehearsal Times.

This year's songs will be the heartfelt gospel number "I'll Fly Away" in the Gospel Vocals book and for your pickin' pleasure we will work on "Down Yonder" found in the Bluegrass Instrumental book.  All students are encouraged and invited to join the Kamp Orchestra for their week of Kamp. Order your book now and bring it to Kamp for use in the orchestra.

Lead by one of the instructors, the orchestra gives the student a chance to work with a professional in a non-intimidating environment practicing with fellow students with the goal to be ready by Friday night's performance.

You will find pictures of past Kamp Orchestras in the Photo Gallery. It's a blast, so start your practice now.
